Low-tech Lab

Welcome on the temporary website of the Low-tech Lab.
Why this new website?

Digital energy consumption has increased from 70% between 2013 and 2017. By 2020, digital industry could account for 10% of the world's electricity consumption and will surpass the civil aviation sector for CO2 emissions (Clicking Clean / Shift Project). Because we are refusing the myth of “dematerialisation” of the digital industry we are now exploring what a low-tech website could be: useful, sober, accessible to all users, open-source, respectful of privacy...

On our way to digital sobriety, we are accompanied by Gauthier Roussilhe, Sylvain Julé and the collective Hackitude.

See you soon to discover our new low-tech site!

Definition of low-tech

"Low-tech" are technologies, services and know-how that meet the following criteria:

Our vision

The Low-tech Lab believes in the power of useful, accessible and sustainable innovation to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow: low-tech offers everyone and everywhere the means to meet their needs while respecting Humans and the Planet!

Thus, exploring these questions is essential for the Low-tech Lab:

Our actions

The Low-tech Lab's mission is to share solutions and low-tech spirit with as many people as possible, in order to enable everyone to meet their basic needs in an autonomous and sustainable way. Since 2013, more than 50 technologies have been identified, tested, documented and disseminated in open source via our collaborative platform.

Today the Low-tech Lab is structured around the following projects:

Habitat Low-lech

Low-tech housing

September 2018 to September 2020

After a year on the roads of France, the Low-tech Tour France team is experimenting with a micro-habitat combining 12 low-techs adapted to the Western context. It will make it possible to assess the impact of these solutions on the environment, our economies and our comfort before their wider dissemination.

Nomade des mers

Sea nomad

September 2015 to January 2021

Around the world aboard a laboratory boat to identify, experiment, document and disseminate low-tech innovations. Over the past 4 years, it has made stops in 16 countries and allowed the study of more than 40 low-tech products.

Agami

Agami

September 2017 to Decembrer 2021

Ascent from Africa aboard an automotive demonstrator of alternative materials and fuels. Objectives: To test these solutions in the field, explore the concept of low-tech mobility, and explore low-tech initiatives with a high socio-economic impact in order to better understand their drivers for scaling up, and how low-tech can contribute to sober, resilient and inclusive societal models.

Communauté Low-tech Lab

Low-tech Lab community

Since June 2018
